Pendle Liberal Democrats Challenge MP on Vote to Cut Income of Disabled People

Pendle’s MP Andrew Stephenson has “let down future disabled people in
Pendle” says Councillor Graham Roach, Chair of Pendle Liberal Democrats,
after the local MP voted in the House of Commons to cut benefits to
disabled people.

The vote was during “parliamentary ping-pong” after the House of Lords
voted to reject a cut of £30 a week in the ESA (Employment Support
Allowance) payment for new claims from people with disabilities and/or
learning disabilities (in the “limited capability for work” group).

“This is just mean,” said Graham Roach. “The House of Commons voted
down the Lords’ amendments to reject these cuts by just 24 votes including
our local representative. I am shocked that Mr Stephenson just trooped
through the Government lobby instead of standing up for disabled people
here in Pendle. He has let down future disabled people in Pendle.”

Graham  Roach was the Liberal Democrat candidate in Pendle at the last
General Election.
