Pendle Liberal Democrats welcome the reopening of the toilets at Wycoller Country Park following protests led by County Councillor Dorothy Lord.
Councillor Lord said: “Lancashire County Council had promised not to close anything this year until they had found another organisation to take over the Country Park. But they locked the toilets and put up a big red notice blaming the government spending cuts and the fact that over the next five years the County Council needs to make savings of £262m.”
The notice read: “From 1st May 2016 these toilets will no longer be cleaned daily with the possibility of further reductions of service.” This notice has now been taken down.
Councillor Lord contacted the County Council Chief Executive Jo Turton to find out what was going on. She says: “There is still a mystery about why the toilets closed but the good news is that they are open again after I
went straight to the top! We will be monitoring the position on a daily basis. These toilets are essential not least on all the hot sunny summer weekends we are due when Wycoller will be packed with visitors!”
