LIBERAL COUNCILLORS ALLOCATE THEIR FUNDS TO COLNE IN BLOOM AND CHALLENGE CONSERVATIVES TO ‘BACK THE BLOOMERS’

Colne’s Liberal Democrat Councillors are giving their £500 allocations for
“horticultural projects” to Colne in Bloom, which has lost its £12000 grant
from the Council’s Colne area committee for next year. Instead the
Conservative majority on the Colne and District Committee allocated just
£500 to each of its 13 members to use as they think fit on “horticultural
projects”.

Liberal Group Leader Councillor Tony Greaves announced at the recent
meeting of the Colne committee that he and the other three Liberal
members – Councillors David Clegg, Graham Roach and Dorothy Lord – were
giving their funds to Colne in Bloom.

Tony Greaves said: “Everyone knows what a wonderful job Colne in Bloom
does. We do not agree with what you have done in scrapping their grant
but we all giving our £500 to Colne in Bloom. We challenge the Conservative
Councillors to do the same.”

Two Conservatives said they were giving all or most of their money
elsewhere but Councillor Joe Cooney said his would also go to Colne in Bloom.

Tony Greaves adds: “We now ask the rest of the Conservative Councillors
to follow their leader and say they will back the bloomers. Do they really
want to be the party that brings the glorious era of Colne in Bloom to an
end?”

Colne in Bloom have already announced they will have to cut back on winter
flowers this year due to shortages of funds.
